There are 3 basic types of government contracts: 1. Invitation For Bids - IFB 2. Request for Quotes - RFQ 3. Request for proposals - RFP IFBs are used for bids on services and RFQs are used for supply a commodity. Invitations for Bids and Request for Quotes are easy to respond to and are usually price driven, meaning the lowest bid wins. Proposals for IFBs and RFQs are simple to write and easier to understand. In most cases, completing an IFB consist of filling in blank forms that the government has provided and sending the bid package back to the Contracting Officer. |
