Homework - Before Bidding On a Government Contract

B
efore you decide on bidding on a  government contract, it is a good idea to do your homework before proceeding.

1.  You will want to register with CCR - the Central Contractor Registration web site before you do anything. http://ccr.gov   In many cases, you must be registered with CCR in order to be paid.

CCR is the primary database o

f government vendors and suppliers.  You will need a Dun & Bradstreet number to register.  Follow the instructions on the CCR web site.  It's free to obtain a DUN Number, and should be done right away.

During this same period of time, you may want to assemble additional information about your business such as copy of your business license, proof of insurance (if necessary) references, current client list, summary of your business including history, current status future objectives, resumes of key management and additional information request in most RFPs

2.  You will want to download the RFP and read the Statement of Work VERY carefully.  It is strongly suggested that you read it 2 or 3 times, to be sure you understand what the RFP is requesting.

3.  Find out what the contract was worth the last time it came up for bid.  You can ask the Contracting Officer for this information
